A Singapore florist who has more than 38 years of experience in floral arrangement talks about flower trends in 2020-2021, and gives 4 tips on how to send bouquets during the pandemic.

Flowers have a deeper meaning. Each flower has a unique significance. Floral capture it correctly, from beautiful yellow sunflowers that exude warmth and security to big red roses that depict love and passion. It have it all and so much more—flowers is for every occasion to brighten someone’s day and make them feel special.
As there are so many kinds of flowers, colors, how many stalks, and how to combine a few different types and colors for specific occasions, this will seem complicated and too much of a headache. A florist in Singapore with almost 4 decades of experience in this business talk about bouquet trends this year and will still be this way in a year coming.

Flowers have been recognized as a universal symbol to express unspoken language in the shape of plants for many centuries around the world. They are conspicuously present on birthdays, funerals, graduation, weddings, etc. forming an integral part of our lives.

Flowers are always known as a perfect messenger to show how you appreciate and cherish a person, a family, or even a community.

In many cases, unlike professional florists, most of us do not really understand how to choose the right kind of flower. Much less what color, and maybe people rarely know that even how many flowers in a bouquet we give actually can have their own different meaning.

It would not be a good experience if after giving a bouquet of floral masterpiece to someone important, we find out evidently that the bouquet has a very different meaning of what sentence we mean to say to the person.

Without a doubt, Rose is one of the most familiar flowers given to someone special. They say the rose is a nature’s poem admired by everyone. But how about what color of Rose and how many stalk of Roses arrangement in a bouquet we send to describe what feeling and words we are trying to say to them?

Red Roses will always be the best way to say “I Love You” to that special someone in your life. Meanwhile, white Roses speak of purity, innocence, and youthfulness. Gifting white roses on weddings represent happy new beginnings. They are also used in funerals as an expression of remembrance.

For instance, a single Rose indicates “love at first sight”, while nine Roses symbolize “eternal love”. To “express an apology”, you need fifteen Roses. And 100 Roses means “a gesture of devotion”.

As there are so many kinds of flowers, colors, how many stalks, what the current trends, and how to combine a few different types and colors for specific occasions, this will seem complicated and too much of a headache.

We spoke to one of the best florists in Singapore who has been in the floral shop delivery business offline and online for more than 38 years, Louis. Indeed, most people don’t realize the meaning of how many stalks of flowers to give and the meaning of the number behind it, He said.

From almost 4 decades experience in the floral business, do you find most people who buy flowers are aware and consider flower meanings before gifting flowers?

Most people know that a red rose stands for romantic and that you should not send yellow roses to anyone in mourning. But the meanings are not only associated with roses but also with other flowers. Most people do not consider flower meanings before gifting flowers. Similarly, people who receive flowers may not know their meaning and miss the underlying message. From centerpieces to bouquets and more, there are so many lovely touches that can be added to the floral designs. That’s why florists must give proper information to customers about these meanings.

There comes a time each year when inquiring couples ask, “What floral trends will be popular for next season?”By current trends and situations, what will be the floral style for 2020-2021?

With many events being rescheduled and postponed, couples are wanting their special day to be even more unique to them. As florists, we are absolutely excited that more people are wanting color.

But minimalism has been having a major moment this year and probably to the next year. This elegant trend favors utility over spectacle and favors neutral ones. Using fewer flowers may sound counter-intuitive but it can actually give a nice, sleek effect to your arrangements.

Despite the fact that we’ve been seeing many clients and vendors root for color, there is another perspective to consider. Because of COVID-19 many families will be struggling financially, mentally, and emotionally. An all white and green color palette can symbolize the beginning of better days and renewal. White and green are timeless color palettes that will never go out of style. There may be many who unconsciously take comfort in that fact.

People still plan to celebrate despite the pandemic, any particular tips for those who still want to say it with flowers?

There are 4 things to consider:

Make the order earlier. If you’re a fan of last-minute shopping accustomed to grabbing flowers on the way, you’ll want to make the order much earlier now. The sooner you place your order, the better chance you have of finding what you want, and getting it delivered in time.

Be flexible about the delivery time. We’d all love for a beautiful bouquet to show up on specific exact time, but many florists are operating at a reduced capacity, and will need to spread their deliveries out. The florist can plan their capacity out much better, instead of trying to get the orders all delivered in one day.

Research a little bit. You may have to put in a little more work to find the florist that can deliver what you need. It’s commonly recommended to find a local shop by “looking at the Google local listings.” There’s also plenty nationwide online sellers to choose from.

There might be some flowers substitutions. Some florists have been hit harder by the pandemic than others, which means some will have a wide array of flowers, and others may have a more limited supply. You might not be able to customize a bouquet the way that you could last time.

How do people know that they still get flowers in good quality? Is there a common thing we can see from the flower arrangements?

After inspecting the blossoms themselves, check out the stems. These should be firm, green and sturdy. If they’re bending or broken, the flowers will wilt much sooner. Also, make sure the ends of the stems are green or white and appear to be freshly cut.
